NEW DELHI: A toll-free round the clock hotline will be soon available for general public to pass on information related to wildlife crime to the officials.

Union Environment Ministry's Wildlife Crime Control Bureau will be setting up the 24x7 helpline service which would facilitate its working, Bureau's newly appointed Deputy Director Reena Mitra said.

The bureau has five regional offices at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Jabalpur and three sub-regional offices at Cochin, Guwahati and Amritsar.

Mitra said the Bureau is in touch with the telecommunication and postal department for popularising the number throughout the country.

The office of the WCCB comprising officials from forests, police and revenue has been set up at the behest of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last year to develop infrastructure and build capacity for scientific and professional investigation into wildlife crimes.
