Five injured in black bear attack in Ramban

Five persons were injured when they were attacked by a black bear in Ramban district of J&Kfollowing which locals staged a protest against the district administration and wildlife department for their failure to contain such attacks.

BANIHAL (J&K): Five persons were injured when they were attacked by a black bear in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir following which locals staged a protest against the district administration and wildlife department for their failure to contain such attacks.

The black bear entered some houses in Halimadian in Dooligam of Banihal tehsil and injured five villagers, two of them critically, they said, adding later the wild animal escaped to forest.

In past two months, around 28 incidents of bear and leopard attacks in upper reaches of Banihal belt have been reported.

"The matter has already been taken up with wildlife department to undertake measure to save the people in hills from these attacks," Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, K B Magotra said.
