Elephants destroy 20 houses, damage crops

A herd of about 30 elephants destroyed around 20 houses and destroyed crops in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, Forest department sources said.

JALPAIGURI: A herd of about 30 elephants destroyed around 20 houses and destroyed crops in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, Forest department sources said on Firday.

The herd of about 30 elephants entered Lalbastee near the Indo-Bhutan border under the Baina forest range from Bhutan last night and damaged the houses, sources said.

The pachyderms also destroyed maize crop in 40 bigha of land and around 500 aricanut trees in the area, sources added.
