Elephant kills two more persons in Jharkhand, total toll at 10

The elephant, which had strayed from a herd ten days ago, trampled two more persons to death today, taking its total victims toll to ten in over a week in Gumla district, a forest official said.

GUMLA (Jharkhand): The elephant, which had strayed from a herd ten days ago, trampled two more persons to death today, taking its total victims toll to ten in over a week in Gumla district, a forest official said.

Fourteen-year-old Jaswant Turi and 12-year-old Choti Kumari were killed by the elephant when they were sleeping in their farm land at Salami village in the wee hours, DFO, Sunil Kumar Gupta, told newsmen here.

The elephant had yesterday trampled to death two persons, another one the previous night and five last week, he added.

The animal, he added, was at Kurungar and a seven-member team from Bengal was trying to bring the elephant under control.

Meanwhile, the forest department has asked villagers not to sleep outside their houses.
