Elephant kills man in Assam

One person was killed by a wild elephant at Boithalangsu in Karbi Anglong district on Friday night.

JORHAT/DIBRUGARH: One person was killed by a wild elephant at Boithalangsu in KarbiAnglong district on Friday night. The victim, ChemsongIngti (48) of Chingdoloi village in the Boithalangsu area, was attacked by the jumbo at 10.30 pm on Friday.

He was returning home after attending a party at the house of one of his relatives at the nearby Pub Borpathar Bongali village in the same area. Ingti sustained multiple injuries in the attack and died on the spot.

"He was returning from her sister's home when the elephant attacked him. On hearing the news, we rushed to the spot but he had succumbed to his injuries," a family member said. He added that the forest staff are yet to visit the spot.

Elsewhere at Khagorijan village in the Rohmoria area of Dibrugarh district, a male leopard was caged by forest officials on Saturday morning. The animal was later released at Joypur Reserve Forest following a veterinary check-up.
