AHMEDABAD: Chief minister Narendra Modi while inaugurating several projects in Kutch on Wednesday claim that Gujarat has remained the biggest source of inspiration for mute animals' checkup. Empathy for the fauna has been flowing in this land for time immemorial, as reflected by arrival of migratory birds from all over the world. He expressed the state's commitment to preserve the near-extinct bird Great Indian Bustard in Kutch.

He said the Gujarat government's most significant campaign for the wellbeing of the mute animals and birds has been the annual Animal Health Camps, nearly 35,000 such camps to treat crores of animals in the first initiative of its kind in India by any state. The campaign resulted in complete eradication of 121 out of 161 animal diseases, and also qualitative improvement in the form of 63 per cent increase in milk production. Gujarat also leads in dentistry, ocular treatment, cataract surgery and orthopedic operations in the country.
