MUMBAI: The annual Maharashtra Pakshimitra Sammelan, which is being organized for the past 25 years, is like a bird pilgrimage-cum-knowledge seminar for bird lovers across Maharashtra, both professionals as well as amateurs. The 26th Sammelan will take place at Amravati on 12th and 13th January 2013. Organized by Amravati-based Wildlife and Environment Conservation Society (WECS) and supported by BNHS, this year’s event will have an array of activities ranging from research paper presentations to birding trails in Melghat Tiger Reserve. The annual event, coordinated by Maharashtra Pakshimitra, based in Chiplun, near Ratnagiri, has been playing a major role in promoting bird conservation and bird watching in Maharashtra.
Last year, the Sammelan took place near Borivli National Park, Mumbai, in which BNHS had actively participated. This time too, BNHS is participating and supporting the Sammelan through Indian Bird Conservation Network (IBCN) – a country-wide network of bird conservation NGOs initiated by BNHS.
The central theme of this year’s Sammelan is “To help increase the scope of bird watching activity”.In line with this theme, the two-day event will have illustrated talks, seminars, lectures, film screenings and research paper presentations.
