Bird sanctuary retains world heritage status

The famous Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur has retained its status as a world heritage site.

JAIPUR: The famous Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur has retained its status as a world heritage site.
According to Sunnyan Sharma, director of the Sanctuary, the UNESCO has approved the continuation of the status during a recent meeting held in Canada.
A UNESCO delegation had visited the park in March and were quite happy with the steps taken by the forest department to get rid of P Juliflora a wild shrub which had engulfed the park in the absence of water, and the measures taken to bring water to the parched sanctuary, Sharma said.
