Bengal Florican, a rare species of bird, has been spotted at the D Ering Wildlife Sanctuary (DEWS) in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

ITANAGAR: Bengal Florican, a rare species of bird, has been spotted at the D Ering Wildlife Sanctuary (DEWS) in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

'Bengal Florican' (Houbaropsis Bengalensis) also known as 'Bengal Bustard', which is known as 'Ulu Mora' in Assamese and 'Sitong Perik' in the Adi belt here, was spotted on the grassland of the sanctuary yesterday, forest officials said here today.

The 'Bengal Florican', which has a smaller separate population in South East Asia, is now found in DEWS but no picture could be taken as yet for photo evidence, the sources said.

However, effort is on to get a photograph of the rare bird, the sources said.
