Anyone caught burning waste to be fined Rs 5,000:NGT
The NGT bench headed by chairperson, justice Swatanter Kumar imposes a fine of Rs 50,000 on three NDMC officials for burning of heaps of dry leaves at Lodhi estate, Bharti Nagar.
The money generated from the fine will be used for various projects related to restoration of environment.
Any person can complain against waste burning to SHO, corporations, DPCC or any other local authority. The order was issued during a hearing of an application filed by Vardhaman Kaushik against high pollution levels in the city. The bench headed by chairperson, justice Swatanter Kumar will discuss the issue of vehicular emissions in the next hearing.
The bench had recently ordered that diesel vehicles that are more than 10 year old be banned in Delhi. There is a stay on that order currently.
