Another tiger found dead in UP forest

Repeated conservation efforts have failed to check the accidental death of tigers in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW: Repeated conservation efforts have failed to check the accidental death of tigers in Uttar Pradesh. On Saturday morning, the carcass of an adult male tiger was found floating in Sharda canal in Mailani range of South Kheri forest division. The incident paints a grimmer picture for the surviving 109 tigers in the state.

The forest department has ruled out natural death in this case. ''The animal was healthy so we cannot say it died a natural death,'' said R C Jha, DFO, South Kheri, adding that it is a case of accidental death. The carcass has no external injury marks, only the belly is swollen, Jha said. The tiger's carcass has been sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly for autopsy.

Tigers can usually swim through but according to the official version so far, the animal would have got swept along in the swift currents and drowned.
