Another rhino killed in Orang National Park
Another rhino fell prey to poachers in Assam's Orang National Park, raising the number of the endangered pachyderms killed in the state in the past week to five.
Park Director M Momin on Tuesday said forest guards heard gunshots on the night of April 27 following which a search operation was launched inside the Park.
The carcass of an adult male rhino was found from the Hati Camp area in the park's south western range.
The poachers, however, managed to flee along with the horn, he said.
Two rhinos were killed last week in the Park while a mother and her calf were killed by poachers in Kaziranga National Park on Monday.
Poachers have killed 28 rhinos in the state since last year.
To protest against the killing of rhinos in the state and "failure of the government to check poaching", the All Assam Students Union (AASU) would stage a sit-in demonstration on Wednesday.
