Angry tusker kills two

'Ye dosti hum nahin todenge' might be an appropriate line for these two tuskers. But their friendship proved costly for two villagers when one of the elephants trampled them to death in Hosur.

BANGALORE: 'Ye dosti hum nahin todenge' might be an appropriate line for these two tuskers. But their friendship proved costly for two villagers when one of the elephants trampled them to death in Hosur.

The 'Jai' and 'Veeru' couple had camped on the outskirts of Muttampatti village near Ude Durgam forest in Hosur on Friday night. On Saturday morning, one of them fell into a 25-foot-deep well.

Unaware of this, Nanjundan (55), went near the well to attend to nature's call at 6 am. The other tusker, already disturbed, attacked Nanjundan and trampled him to death. Meanwhile, other villagers found the other elephant in the well and called the forest department.

While the department officers were busy with rescue operations, the villagers continued to disturb the killer tusker. When Krishnan (40), under the influence of alcohol, went close, he was thrown a distance by the charging elephant, resulting in his death.
