Adult tigress found dead in Kaziranga

An adult Royal Bengal Tiger was found dead in Kaziranga National Park on Sunday.

JORHAT: An adult Royal Bengal Tiger was found dead in Kaziranga National Park on Sunday. Divisional forest officer (Kaziranga) S K Seal Sharma said the carcass of the big cat was found near the Naromora beel in the Kohora forest range of the park.

"The animal was an adult tigress and we found some injury marks on its body, but the exact cause of the death is yet to be ascertained," Sharma said.

A preliminary probe suggests the tigress might have died of infighting with one of her kind, which is a common phenomenon as tigers fight over territory control. In October, another tiger was killed in a territorial fight near Gobrai anti-poaching camp in the Kohora forest range. After the carcass was recovered, officials of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) reached the park. Veterinarians conducted an autopsy in the presence of the NTCA officials and burnt the carcass.
