Ninety kg of sea cucumber, an endangered species, were seized by marine police near coastal Devipattinam town in the district today and two persons were arrested in this connection.

RAMANATHAPURAM (TN): Ninety kg of sea cucumber, an endangered species, were seized by marine police near coastal Devipattinam town in the district today and two persons were arrested in this connection.

The seizure was effected after a police patrol questioned the duo who were moving around with a jute bag in a suspicious manner. A search revealed the sea cucumbers and were later handed over to forest department officials, police said.

The two persons were arrested and a case under the Wildlife Protection Act was slapped against them, police said.

The total value of the seized sea cucumbers was around Rs nine lakh, they added.
