BENGALURU: Thirty four beagles stepped out of their cages to freedom from a testing laboratory in Bengaluru on Sunday. The dogs were used for breeding.

The highly traumatized dogs are being hosted at the Hotel for Dogs in Sarjapur. The adoption campaign for all the dogs is specially designed and only pre-approved families will be allowed to adopt a beagle.

“We were expecting them to be in the age group of 5-6 years, they were actually 7-8 years old,” said Chinthana G, volunteer of CUPA.

The NGO confirmed that the beagles have not been tested upon and were primarily used for breeding and some were kept waiting for project approvals to come, which never did. Another 30 dogs are still in the custody of the laboratory, awaiting to be rescued.

The rescued beagles are up for adoption from next Saturday. The beagles deserve loving homes after being confined in metal cages all their lives. A lot of patience and handling is required to help the dogs get over their past life. More than 300 mails have been received by CUPA for adoption queries. “We are looking at outstation adoption only if the family is willing to drive down to adopt a beagle and interact with us personally too” said a CUPA representative.
