3 arrested for smuggling tortoise

LUCKNOW: Three people were arrested with 55 tortoise meant for smuggling to West Bengal in Barabanki district, about 30 kms from here, police reports reaching here said on Saturday.

Police said one among the three arrested from near Hairabeeru canal culvert area on Friday belonged to Nadia district of West Bengal.

The culprits had caught the tortoise from a local lake Nardhijheel, police said adding that a case under the wildlife protection act has been registered in this connection.
