20 injured in bear attack in Orissa

Twenty people, including a girl and a woman, were injured when a bear attacked them in Kuakhia area of Orissa's Jajpur district.

JAJPUR (Orissa): Twenty people, including a girl and a woman, were injured when a bear attacked them in Kuakhia area of Orissa's Jajpur district.

According to sources, the incident happened at Jabara, about 50 km from here, when the bear, which sneaked into the village from nearby Kalinganagar area, attacked a farmer while he was returning from his paddy field. The animal then targeted several other villagers.

Even two persons on bike were attacked by the bear, the sources said.

Forest officials rushed the village to tame the animal, Kuakhia police station inspector in-charge A K Das said.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. All of them were out of danger, hospital sources said.
