INDORE: Killing peacock with a catapult near Sirpur pond in Chandan Nagar area here landed two youths from Banda district in UP, behind bars on Thursday.

The incident happened near the Sirpur pond when a supervisor of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) Rajesh Jain spotted two youths stuffing peacock in a bag.

The matter was reported to Chandan Nagar police, leading to the arrest of Dharamveer Singh, 25 and Suraj Singh, 19, both from Badgad village of Banda district.

The catapult used to kill the peacock was also recovered.

"The duo have been arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972," Chandan Nagar police station in charge Hanumant Singh Rajput said.

During initial questioning the accused told the police that they had killed the national bird to extract medicated oil.
