14 turtles seized in Kota

The Rajasthan Forest Department on Wednesday seized 14 turtles from a shop in the railway station area of the city.

KOTA: The Rajasthan Forest Department on Wednesday seized 14 turtles from a shop in the railway station area of the city.

Acting on specific information, police raided the shop and seized 14 turtles, including some of foreign breed.

Regional Forest officer Rajeev Kapoor said action would be taken against the shop owner if it is found that keeping the same breed of turtles is against law.

Keeping many breeds of turtles is an offence under the Wildlife Act of 1972 and is punishable with imprisonment upto seven years and a fine of Rs 25,000.
