When art helps wildlife conservation
From the pristine landscapes of Tibet to a Kolkata morning on the Hooghly river, from the nature-inspired contours of Gaudi's architecture to a golden dusk over the Arno river in Florence -- the photographs and art works of Bharat and Mrida Joshi ...
But apart from being a visual delight, the art on display has a larger goal: raise environmental awareness. The photography-cum-art exhibition of the artist duo is being showcased at GK II's Gallerie Ganesha till May 17 as a fundraiser to support World Wildlife Fund (WWF) India.
The effort is to connect with WWF-India's several projects that aim to protect various species on the brink of extinction and to focus on human being's relationship with the environment. ""This is a modest attempt at making issues of environment part of our popular culture, our lifestyle,"" says Bharat, whose photographs draw inspiration from visual and performing arts. For Mrida, the inspiration came from people and organizations that are shifting focus towards conservation and garnering general attention towards these causes. With the belief that art has a higher purpose - be it cinema, music, poetry or visual arts - the duo's works are an intuitive force in raising public consciousness towards such causes.
The exhibition is titled, Witnesses of Time, essentially alluding to nature and its resources. Its an interaction of man with his environment and how he must walk hand in hand with nature if the twain must coexist in a self sustaining ecosystem, or else perish, sooner than later.
