US expert to talk on US-Pak relations in emerging geopolitical environment in Manipal on Friday

Prof Stephen Tankel, assistant professor at American University's School of International Service in Washington DC and a non-resident senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security, will be in Manipal on Friday.

MANGALURU: Prof Stephen Tankel, assistant professor at American University's School of International Service in Washington DC and a non-resident senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security, will be in Manipal on Friday.

He will address students of Manipal University's Department of Geopolitics and International Relations on the topic 'US-Pakistan Relations in the Emerging Geopolitical Environment.'

Based on his engagements in Pakistan and time as a senior adviser at the department of defense, Prof Tankel will offer his impressions on prospects for the future of US-Pakistan relations and his assessments regarding future progress.

Prof Tankel specializes in international security with a focus on political and military affairs in South Asia, transnational threats, Islamist militancy, and US foreign and defense policies related to these issues. He has published widely on these topics and conducted field research on conflicts and militancy in Algeria, Bangladesh, India, Lebanon, Pakistan, and the Balkans.

In addition to his writing, professor Tankel is on the editorial board of studies in conflict and terrorism and is a senior editor of the web magazine War on the Rocks.
