PM Modi dials Sandeshkhali survivor Rekha Patra after BJP fields her from Bengal's Basirhat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called BJP Basirhat candidate and Sandeshkhali assault survivor Rekha Patra on Tuesday and assured her of all the support while expressing his optimism about her victory in the Lok Sabha elections.

Describing her as "Shakti Roopa", the PM said it was unfortunate that many people of Basirhat have not been allowed to vote since 2011.

In a telephone conversation that lasted around seven minutes, Modi sought to know from Patra how her candidature was received by the people, especially women, in Basirhat. "I am sure you will reach Delhi (Parliament).... You are Shakti Swaroopa... You have sent powerful people to jail... You are a symbol of Shakti that is worshipped in West Bengal," Modi was quoted as saying.
