Kolkata: A major tussle unfolded between Lok Sabha MP and Union Minister Shantanu Thakur and Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Mamatabala Thakur in Matua Thakurbari in Bongaon over capture of late Matua matriarch Boroma’s room. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MP and Minister of State (MoS) Shantanu Thakur claimed on Monday that he received a threat letter from over CAA and NRC, saying if CAA and NRC are implemented, Matua Thakurbari will be blown off in a blast.

“It has been claimed that the threat letter was sent from Deganga in North 24 Parganas district. The person, who is the sender, claimed himself to be a member of Lashkar-e Taiba. If I try to implement CAA and NRC, Matua Thakurbari will be destroyed,” Shantanu Thakur said. “I have forwarded the letter to the Union Home Minister and all other necessary quarters.”

Two groups of followers of the two BJP and TMC MPs protested in the premises of the Thakurbari, the headquarters of Matua Mahasangh and police have been deployed in the area, at a time the Matuas are celebrating Baruni fair in Thakurnagar.

Allegations and counter allegations flowed with Rajya Sabha MP Mamatabala Thakur and Shantanu Thakur continued a war of words throughout the day.

“If they are talking about their rights now. His (Shantanu) grandmother died several years back. Why are they trying to capture the room now,” Mamatabala Thakur said today.

Shantanu is the grandson of Binapani Devi while Mamata Bala Thakur is her daughter-in-law.

On Sunday night, it was claimed by Trinamool that Shantanu Thakur along with his supporters allegedly forcefully took control of the Matua matriarch Binapani Devi “Boroma’s” house, where Mamata Bala presently resides.

Following the incident, Mamatabala lodged a police complaint last night and today afternoon police intervened and were allowed to take her belongings. Mamatabala claimed all her important documents were kept in the room which was locked by a BJP MP. Mamatabala is scheduled to take oath as Rajya Sabha MP tomorrow.

However, after police left, Shantanu Thakur again locked all the rooms and sat there for hours guarding it.

Shantanu Thakur said, “Boroma and PR Thakur were my grandparents. No law can prevent me from entering the room. We have requested the keys at least ten times.”
