Diamond Harbour Election Result 2024: TMC's favorite nephew Abhishek Banerjee wins seat with over 5 lakh vote margin

Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is leading from Diamond Harbour by over 5 lakh votes. According to the latest trends from the Election Commission of India, Banerjee has secured 681,448 votes against his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opponent Abhijit Das, who has received 176,652 votes.

TMC's Strong Performance Across West Bengal

Overall, the TMC has garnered 46.91% of the votes in West Bengal. The BJP follows with 37.54%, CPI(M) with 5.7%, Congress with 4.66%, AIFB with 0.23%, BSP with 0.40%, and CPI with 0.07%. In terms of seat distribution, TMC is leading in 31 seats, BJP in 10, and Congress in one.

Key TMC Leaders and Their Leads

Several key TMC leaders are leading in their respective constituencies. Shatrughan Sinha is ahead in Asansol by over 36,000 votes, Mahua Moitra has gained a lead of over 65,000 votes in Krishnanagar, and Abu Taher Khan is leading in Murshidabad. Other TMC leaders with significant leads include Rachana Banerjee in Hooghly, Nurul Islam in Bashirhat, Deepak Adhikary in Ghatal, Sayani Ghosh in Jadavpur, Partha Bhowmick in Barrackpore, and Sougata Roy in Dum Dum.

BJP and Congress Performance

The BJP is leading in 10 seats across West Bengal. Former cricketer Yusuf Pathan, who was initially trailing, has now taken the lead. Meanwhile, Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury is trailing by approximately 3,000 votes.

Polling Phases and Mamata Banerjee's Absence from INDIA Bloc Meeting

West Bengal's polling for the 42 Lok Sabha seats occurred in seven phases, with the final phase on June 1. Due to the polling, Mamata Banerjee skipped a significant meeting of the INDIA bloc, attended by senior leaders from Congress, Samajwadi Party, CPI-M, CPI, DMK, JMM, AAP, RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar). The TMC and PDP did not participate in this meeting held at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence.
