West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday that BJP won't be returning to power in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Banerjee, who was speaking on the last day of campaigning on Thursday, took a 12-km long public roadshow starting from the Jadavpur constituency via Gariahat to Gopalnagar in Kolkata south constituency.

She was accompanied by Jadavpur candidate Sayoni Ghosh and senior MPs, ministers, including Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim and Krishnanagar constituency candidate Mahua Moitra.

Large number of people waved at Banerjee and greeted her during the roadshow. Local folk singers and Adviasi dancers, dressed in traditional dresses, also accompanied the chief minister.

"If all goes well, BJP will not be coming to power this time. Modi must go and let democracy be upheld," Banerjee said before starting her roadshow.

The chief minister also expressed her grievance over PM Narendra Modi's plan to embark on a 48-hour meditation at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari and said meditation cannot be done before TV cameras.

"Even during the silence period, it is a violation of MCC (model code of conduct) and he will sit for meditation till June 1, the day of the poll, though the campaign has ended. TV cameras will be showing it as the media has become "Bedia" (BJP's media) in fear of ED, IT and CBI...Every year, he goes somewhere and grabs publicity. Why will he take cameras along with him?," Banerjee questioned.

Raising certain issues, Banerjee said prices of essential items are skyrocketing and people are suffering. She also urged Trinamool Congress party workers to prepare for June 4 when votes will be counted.
