BJP a goonda party, EC is Modi-Shah brother: Mamata Banerjee

KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee termed the EC the ‘brother of Modi-Shah’ and alleged BJP was a ‘party of goondas’ ruled by ‘satan’.

Addressing two rallies and two roadshows in South 24 Parganas district and Kolkata South, respectively, the Trinamool chief ’s ire towards EC followed its order to cut short the election campaign deadline in Bengal by a day.

“They (BJP) are losing horribly. They will get zero seats in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. In UP, they will get 17 and in Maharashtra 20. So, how will they secure a majority? They could only try to hamper my campaign schedule. Though the decision came last night we were able to organise such huge meetings within hours,” she said.


Scoffing at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his promise to gift a huge metal statue of Iswarchandra Vidyasagar, she said: “Bengal does not need your money to build Vidyasagar’s statue. Can you return the 200-yearold heritage to us? We have proof (of BJP supporters’ involvement in the vandalism) and you blame Trinamool? Are you not ashamed? We will drag you to jail. We are not going to abandon the case,” Banerjee said at a rally at Mathurapur where Modi too held a rally in the afternoon.

Banerjee directed the police to take action against those who provided land for Modi’s rally.

“Individuals, who gave land for Modi rally here run micro-financing companies without licence. I have directed the police to register a case and take immediate action against them. They should be ashamed of putting Modi’s banners here and seeking votes for him.”

She handed over some documents to the police on the stage and claimed that she came to know about the “malpractice” only on Thursday.
