Baharampur Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Date, schedule, result, party-wise candidates and other key details

The Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency has switched between the Left and the Congress since the first election in 1952, but has become somewhat of a Congress stronghold in the past couple of decades.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress is currently the sitting Member of Parliament from Baharampur, with the Lok Sabha member set to contest again this year.

The constituency is set to see a three-way tiff between the Congress, the BJP and the Trinamool Congress.

One of the four consitutencies voting during the third phase of the general elections, the Baharampur seat will see votes cast on May 7. The state of West Bengal will see voting in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

According to the Election Commission, the results for the Baharampur consituency will be declared on June 4, the day of counting all across the country. In 2019, the results for the general elections were announced on May 23.

Baharampur Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Candidates
In the fray for the Bharampur seat are Congress strongman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who will look to hold on to the seat he's won every election since 1999. Fighting him for the position of MP are former cricketer Yusuf Pathan, contesting for the Trinamool Congress and a 66-year-old surgeon, Dr. Nirmal Kumar Saha, who is contesting on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.

Five years ago, when the country went to polls, the Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury emerged victorious, beating his Trinamool Congress counterpart by 80,000-odd votes. The BJP was barely in the fight, with its candidate Krishna Juardar Arya only grabbing 11% of the vote in the 16-lakh voter constituency.
