Kolkata: Baharampur Congress candidate and West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury fears vote loot in his Constituency in Murshidabad’s Baharampur and urged all the voters to go to the polling station and cast their votes on the day of polling.

The Congress MP is apprehensive of vote loot during Lok Sabha polls in Baharampur and cited his previous experience in last Lok Sabha polls. “In last Lok Sabha polls, 269 booths were rigged and Trinamool was hand in gloves, driving out the workers. Congress agents were intimidated. The person whom you see in the lead role in BJP was in Trinamool back then. Trinamool even said I was getting defeated. In the last election, Mr Mukesh was Police Superintendent in this district. Suvendu Adhikari was in Trinamool then,” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said today.

Chowdhury also said that despite such ill practices, he won from Baharampur.

He urged the people of Baharampur to go to the booth and cast their own vote. “Don’t be afraid. This is my assurance and if you cannot vote, it is my responsibility. It is not that I am assuring but ECI has assured. It is not me who is personally doing it, I have received assurance from ECI for free and fair polls,” Chowdhury said.

He also alleged that people of Baharampur who follow Congress ideology are selectively omitted when giving water from pipeline is concerned in this immense heat. “People will be given drinking waterline to those in Murshidabad if they are promising to give vote to Trinamool Congress,” Chowdhury said.

West Bengal has become a state which is engaged in illegal affairs and all other malpractices, he added.

Talking about ED-CBI probe in the state, Chowdhury said, “We want to see action on how far ED can progress. After coming out of the INDIA Alliance and following the meeting of Prime Minister and Didi in Raj Bhawan in March, Didi will not be out of Modi’s favour and sympathy.”

Chowdhury also alleged that divisive politics is Modi’s style of politics which is prevalent in the country at present.

Former IPL cricketer Yusuf Pathan is contesting with a Trinamool ticket from the seat.
