"It is obvious that Rahul Gandhi camp is systematically marginalising both, Priyanka Vadra and her husband, in the Congress. How soon before the sister rebels?" said Amit Malviya in a post on X.
"Spare a moment for Robert Vadra, who, despite claiming immense popularity in Amethi, was overlooked for the seat," added Malviya in the post. Earlier, Vadra had shown interest in contesting the forthcoming polls from Amethi. If I would contest, I would prefer Amethi. My first step in politics should be Amethi," Vadra said.
Uttar Pradesh's Amethi has long been synonymous with the Gandhis and it would be the first time in 25 years that a Gandhi family member will not be contesting election from the Lok Sabha seat. Considered a citadel of the Gandhi family since its creation as a constituency in 1967, Amethi has been represented by a Gandhi family member for about 31 years since then.
The Congress fortress was breached in the last general election in 2019 when BJP's Smriti Irani beat Rahul Gandhi by more than 55,000 votes.
Voting in Amethi and Rae Bareli will be held on May 20 in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha polls. The results of all Lok Sabha seats will be declared on June 4.
