People performing aartis, touching my feet during rally: BJP candidate Arun Govil who played Lord Ram on screen
Arun Govil, BJP candidate and former Lord Ram actor, gains increased respect at rallies due to his Ramayan role, with people performing Aartis and touching his feet, despite his political endeavors.

"The respect that I receive because I played Lord Ram on screen has increased. Have you seen people touching the feet of politicians? They see me as Ram despite my contesting in the election. During 2-3 hours of Jan Sampark, 20-25 Aartis are performed on me. 2 tonnes of flowers are dropped on me. Ladies come and touch my feet. They see a positive factor in me," Arun Govil told PTI.
Govil made his debut on the big screen with the 1977 film Paheli - long before he rose to prominence with the serial Ramayana. After he was cast as Lord Ram in the serial, he became a revered figure. Such was his popularity that people used to seek his blessings and pay respects whenever they encountered him in public, reported the Times of India.
Govil joined BJP in 2021. The saffron party has given a ticket to Arun Govil, who played the character of Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayan,' from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut.
Last week, Govil found himself in controversy after he indicated potential changes to the Constitution.
