Who is Nupur Sharma?

Nupur Sharma was associated with BJP's student wing ABVP since her student days. Nupur had served as the president of Delhi University Students' Union in 2008. Professionally a lawyer, Sharma had contested against Arvind Kejriwal in the 2015 assembly elections. However, she lost by a margin of 31,000 votes. Two years ago, during a TV show, Nupur Sharma made controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad. Following this, violence erupted in several cities. Amidst the controversy, BJP suspended her.
