Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabha Election Result 2024: SP's Harendra Singh Malik vs BJP's Sanjeev Balyan. Who won?
In Muzaffarnagar, Samajwadi Party's Harendra Singh Malik leads by 17,037 votes as per the Election Commission website. BJP's Sanjeev Balyan follows, with Dara Singh Prajapati of BSP in third place. The election in Muzaffarnagar took place on April...
Both Malik and Balyan are prominent members of the influential Jat community in western Uttar Pradesh. Balyan, who won the Muzaffarnagar seat in 2014 and 2019, has served as a Union minister in the Modi government.
Malik previously stated that the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) aligning with the BJP would not affect the poll results in Muzaffarnagar. The RLD, led by Jayant Chaudhary, switched allegiance from the INDIA bloc to the BJP, a move that surprised many in the region. In the 2019 elections, Balyan had narrowly defeated Ajit Singh, the former RLD chief and Jayant Chaudhary's father, by about 5,000 votes.
Malik dismissed the significance of RLD's alignment with BJP, asserting that the RLD's absence of a candidate in Muzaffarnagar rendered the alliance inconsequential. He had emphasized that this political shift would not benefit the BJP.
He acknowledged the influence of farmer groups in the region, noting that although these organizations are apolitical, their support can significantly impact election outcomes.
Regarding Balyan's accomplishments during his tenure, Malik criticized the BJP leader for failing to deliver on significant projects. While Balyan might claim credit for a model railway station, Malik argued that more substantial developments, such as an industrial corridor between Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur, have not materialized, This corridor was initially proposed between Meerut and Saharanpur and could have provided employment opportunities for local youth, he said.
