I will not be happy if BJP loses even one booth: Modi

VARANASI: Claiming it was the first election in India with a ‘pro-incumbency wave’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday exhorted BJP workers to ensure record voter turnout in Varanasi. He cautioned people to not fall into the trap of those who may say there was no need to vote as ‘BJP is anyway winning’.

BJP leaders said that a higher voter turnout will boost the party’s chances in UP, while expressing apprehension over a below 65% turnout so far. The leaders were confident that Modi will win by a record margin of over 6 lakh votes.

“The job of winning Kashi was completed after the road show. Now our target is to win every booth in Kashi. Each vote is important. I would not be happy with my win if even a single booth is lost by my worker,” the PM said to 1,819 BJP booth presidents. He said record polling was not to ensure his big margin of victory but to ensure that democracy wins.


“I wish voting percentage of women will be 5 points higher than men. I could not ensure it in Gujarat but wish to do it in Kashi,” he said.

Modi also asked BJP workers to respect political opponents.
