BJP candidate from Moradabad Lok Sabha seat, Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar, passed away at Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Saturday. He was 72 years old, and his death was confirmed by UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary.

Kumar had been unwell for some time, with Chaudhary mentioning that he had throat problems and recently underwent an operation. He had gone to AIIMS for a check-up where he passed away.

Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar was one of the 12 candidates in the poll fray from Moradabad parliamentary constituency, which had its elections in the first phase on Friday (April 19). He served as the Lok Sabha MP from Moradabad from 2014 to 2019 but lost the 2019 Lok Sabha elections to SP's ST Hasan.


He was also a five-time BJP MLA from Thakurdwara assembly constituency in Moradabad, serving from 1991 to 2007 and then again from 2012 to 2014. He is survived by his wife, Sadhna Singh, a son, and a daughter.

Condoling his death, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in a post on X in Hindi, "I am shocked by the demise of BJP candidate from Moradabad Lok Sabha constituency and former MP Kunwar Sarvesh Singh ji. This is an irreparable loss for the BJP family. My condolences are with the bereaved family. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed soul in his feet and provide strength to the bereaved family and their supporters to bear this loss. Om Shanti."

Kunwar Sarvesh Singh's death has been attributed to a heart attack at Delhi's AIIMS. He had cast his vote on Friday in Moradabad and was taken to AIIMS after his health deteriorated. A five-term MLA from Thakurdwara, he was elected to parliament in 2014.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath expressed his shock at the news, offering condolences to the bereaved family. The Samajwadi Party also expressed sorrow over Singh's demise, with party president Akhilesh Yadav offering his condolences to the grieving family.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweets, "I am deeply saddened by the untimely demise of BJP candidate from Moradabad Lok Sabha seat and former MP Kunwar Sarvesh Singh ji. He remained dedicated to public service and social service till his last breath. His demise is an irreparable loss for the party. I pray to God to give strength to his family to bear this deep grief. Om Shanti!"
