Income tax dept conducts searches in premises linked to DMK’s Durai Murugan

Income tax investigators and officers of an Election Commission flying squad are conducting a search operation in premises linked to DMK Treasurer Durai Murugan, officials aware of the raid told ET.

“Election commission officials had first wanted to search some premises linked to Durai Murugan and sought our help. We joined early morning today (Saturday). Searches are being conducted at three places. No seizures so far,” said an IT official, on conditions of anonymity.

The raids at Murugan’s premises in Katpadi in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu follow similar action in South Karnataka on leaders associated with the ruling Janata Dal(Secular), triggering a protest led by chief minister HD Kumaraswamy in front the The I-T offices in Bengaluru on Thursday.


Murugan, a Senior DMK leader, has launched his son Kathir Anand as the candidate for Vellore constituency in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
