Udaipur Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Dates, schedule, partywise candidates and all you need to know

Udaipur, one of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Rajasthan, is designated as a reserved seat for Scheduled Tribes (STs). The state has three seats reserved for STs—Banswara, Udaipur, and Dausa. Banswara and Udaipur fall within the Tribal Sub-Plan area, where tribal communities are recognized as indigenous.

In 2019, it had 20,69,559 electors, with 14,54,518 valid votes. Arjunlal Meena of the Bharatiya Janata Party clinched victory with 871,548 votes, defeating Indian National Congress' Raghuvir Singh Meena by 437,914 votes.

The date of voting for the Udaipur constituency of Rajasthan is April 26. The date of counting and announcement of results is June 4.

BJP’s decision to field Mannalal Rawat from Udaipur has reportedly caused discomfort in the party’s state unit. Rawat, a former employee of the Rajasthan State Roadways and Transport Corporation (RSRTC), has caused consternation due to his relative inexperience in electoral politics.

His nomination was a “calculated risk”, sources had said TOI, adding that local leaders were not taken into confidence on Rawat’s candidature.

The nomination of two candidates who don’t enjoy popular support in BJP and benching of two sitting tribal MPs, Kanakmal Katara (Banswara) and Arjunlal Meena (Udaipur), is added to the unease in the state unit.

Rawat’s elevation, owing to his silent support for the RSS tribal body, Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, hasn’t gone well with local party leaders. Sitting MP, Arjun Lal Meena, did not fare well in the party’s internal survey, and Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, a close aide of Assam governor Gulabchand Kataria, was projected as the party face.

Both the sitting MPs—Kanakmal Katara and Arjunlal Meena—and other party leaders have welcomed the party decision. But putting them to work for the party candidates in the Lok Sabha polls will not be that easy.

Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) has set the stage for the upcoming elections by announcing Prakash Chandra Buj as its contender for the Udaipur Lok Sabha seat.
