Army jawan demands Rs 2.5 crore from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve for manipulating EVMs, arrested

Maharashtra Police arrested an Army jawan in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city for demanding Rs 2.5 crore from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve for manipulating the electronic voting machines (EVMs).

A complaint was lodged against Maruti Dhakne (42) after he allegedly solicited funds by asserting he could manipulate EVMs using a chip. Dhakne purportedly claimed that such manipulation would sway votes in favor of a specific candidate, according to PTI reports.

Residing in Pathardi, Maharashtra, Dhakne is currently situated in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, as per police sources.


"Our initial investigation has revealed that he has huge debt, and, therefore, devised this plan to make money,” Police said.

He has been booked under Sections 420 (cheating) and 511 (attempt to commit an offense) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police Commissioner Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Manoj Lohia said "An Army jawan posted in Jammu was arrested in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city for demanding Rs 2.5 crore from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve for manipulating the EVMs."

"The jawan had a loan on his head. He had no knowledge of EVMs, he was just trying to cheat him. He met Ambadas Danve in Pune once and today he came to meet him and take money from the party leader. To set the trap, Ambadas Danve promised him to pay Rs 1 lakh and the leader's brother registered a complaint after which the jawan was arrested..."
