The biggest electoral excercise in the country is coming to an end as the counting of votes has started in various parts of the country. In the southern party of India, NDA is leading as Congress who is currently in power at assembly level trails behind.

Karnataka which has 28 seats will be one of the most important seat for ruling BJP as this state is the only one in southern part of the country where the saffron party was able to get power in the past.

According to the latest EC update, BJP was leading in 18 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka while its ally JD(S) was ahead in three. Ruling Congress' nominees were leading in seven seats.


Prajwal Revanna who has been accussed of sexual assault lost by a margin of 42,649 votes.

Around 11:30 am, the poll panel released the initial trends of all 543 seats where BJP-led NDA was seen leading on 293 seats. INDIA bloc has taken a lead on 228 seats.



What do the early trends suggest?
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar's brother and Congress MP D K Suresh was trailing in Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha segment by a margin of 51,869 votes.

Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing allegations of sexually abusing several women and also recording them, was leading. He has already been suspended by the JD(S).

JD(S) leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi (BJP) were ahead in the Mandya and Dharwad Lok Sabha segments, respectively

Erstwhile Mysuru royal family scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar of BJP in Mysore, party veteran B S Yediyurappa's son B Y Raghavendra in Shivamoga, saffron party senior leader and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shetttar from Belgaum and BJP leader Tejasvi Surya (Bangalore South).

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's son-in-law Radhakrishna Doddamani was trailing in Gulbarga.

Former Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri (BJP) and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai (BJP) had taken early lead in Uttara Kannada and Haveri segments, respectively.

What did the exit polls say about Karnataka?
The southern state of Karnataka might have voted for the BJP-JD(S) alliance as India Today-MyAxis exit poll predict 23-25 of the 28 seats in the state for the alliance with the Congress set to win only 3-5 seats.
