Hassan Lok Sabha Election Result: Rape-accused Prajwal Revanna vs Congress' Shreyas Patel, who is winning?

Hassan, another constituency which has topped headlines, is set to be the Congress' throne this time as its candidate Shreyas Patel has secured a margin of over 40,000 votes against ex-JD(S) candidate and rape accused, Prajwal Revanna.

Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Gangadhar Bahujan is in the third position.

The former Prime Minister represented the Hassan constituency from 1991 to 1994, 1998 to 1999 and again from 2004 and 2014. This constituency comprises Hassan district and Kaduru Taluk in Chikmagaluru district.

Interestingly, both candidates, Revanna and Patel's rivalry stretches back two generations with their grandfathers, HD Deve Gowda and the late Puttuswamy Gowda, going up against each other in 1999. The former Prime Minister lost that battle.

Prajwal had contested as the NDA candidate.

Following Hassan's April 26 election, the JD(S) suspended him from the party due to allegations sexual abuse came to light.

He is presently under the Special Investigation Team's (SIT) custody till June 6.

For the BJP, Karnataka is the most important State in the south of India as it's only here that it had held power in the past.

In the 2019 general elections, the Congress won a mere one seat out of the total 28 in Karnataka, as against the BJP who swept the elections with 25 seats.
