Union Home Minister Amit Shah hit back at the Congress on Wednesday, saying the Karnataka government had purposely delayed investigating Prajwal Revanna sex tape scandal till the elections in the Vokkaliga belt were done with.

"I want to make it clear, even though the JDS is our alliance partner, we never condone violence against women. My problem is with the Karnataka Congress government. Their inaction has helped him escape the country," he accused, speaking in a rally in Hubballi, a week before the constituency, along with 13 others in Karnataka, goes to the polls.

Slamming the Karnataka regime, Shah said it was incapable of protecting women, and always kept its own political gains before everything else. He brought up the Neha Hiremath murder from last month, where the young student had been stabbed to death on the campus in Hubballi. "The Congress has been protecting minorities by calling it a 'personal matter.' Why should a young girl not be safe in her own college campus? If you cannot protect women, leave office," Shah said.

He also hit out at CM Siddaramaiah over the recent drought issue protests, saying the latter was using water scarcity to play politics.
