The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lodged a complaint with the Election Commission on Friday, accusing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's son, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by using derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

In a letter to the poll body, the state unit of the BJP alleged that Yathindra Siddaramaiah's remarks during a party meeting in Hanur town of Chamarajanagara district were a breach of the MCC guidelines issued by the EC.

The letter emphasized that such personal attacks on political leaders were unacceptable and demanded action against the former MLA for his comments.

During the said meeting, Yathindra Siddaramaiah reportedly referred to Home Minister Amit Shah as a "goonda" (thug) and alleged his involvement in criminal activities. He also accused Prime Minister Modi of associating with individuals with criminal backgrounds.

State BJP President B Y Vijayendra condemned these statements, highlighting that they were inappropriate for someone who had served as a legislator and was the son of the chief minister. He called for Yathindra Siddaramaiah to retract his remarks and issue an apology.

The Lok Sabha polls are scheduled to be held in seven phases, commencing on April 19. 96.8 crore individuals are eligible to exercise their right to vote across more than 12 lakh polling stations during the forthcoming elections. The counting of votes is set to occur on June 4.
