We don’t need pity from Mamata Banerjee: Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury' jibe at TMC over seat-sharing row in Bengal

Taking potshots at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Pradesh Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said on Thursday that Banerjee is not interested in seat sharing and intends to serve Narendra Modi by not entering into any alliance with Congress.

“Who went to beg from Trinamool Congress? We have not gone to beg seats from Trinamool Congress. Mamata Banerjee is saying herself that she wants to enter into an alliance and fight Lok Sabha…We don’t need pity from Banerjee,” senior Congress leader Chowdhury said.

“We can fight on our own strength…we don’t want pity,” Chowdhury, who is also Berhampore Congress MP, reiterated.


“The message is clear-Mamata Banerjee does not want any alliance. Who will be most happy if the alliance does not work out? It will be Prime Minister Narendra Modiji,” Chowdhury asserted, adding “What Mamataji is doing, she is engaged in doing “seva” (serving) to Modiji,” Chowdhury said today while addressing the media persons.

Amid murmurs about Trinamool willing to share two seats in Bengal with Congress, the state Congress president also mentioned that the two seats, which are being talked about, belong to the Congress.

Chowdhury also challenged Mamata Banerjee to fight against him in Berhampore. "I challenge Mamata to field anyone in my constituency or else even she can contest. I promise that if I lose, I will be quitting politics," Chowdhury added.

Months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Congress and Trinamool are at loggerheads in West Bengal amid fissures over seat sharing even as chief minister Mamata Banerjee clearly stated at a public rally recently that the INDIA bloc's coalition will stay in the rest of the country while her party will fight alone in the state.
