Voting in 15 Northeast Lok Sabha seats today

15 northeast Lok Sabha seats vote on April 19. Manipur: Inner-19, Outer-26. Arunachal, Sikkim have simultaneous polls. BJP backs NPP in Meghalaya.

Lok Sabha Battle in Northeast: BJP, allies eye dominance as Congress fights for relevance
Polling for 15 of the total 25 Lok Sabha seats in the northeast will be held in the first phase on April 19. Ahead of polls, the Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organisation ordered a shutdown and asked people to abstain from voting due to non-fulfilment of its demand for Frontier Nagaland Territory.

For the first time, Manipur will see polling in two phases for one seat. Elections to Inner Manipur will be held on April 19 while that for Outer Manipur will take place in two phases - on April 19 and April 26.

Simultaneous assembly and Lok Sabha polls will be held in Arunachal and Sikkim on Friday. BJP has announced its support for the ruling NPP for both the Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya.


In Assam, BJP has left three seats for its allies. Four candidates are in the fray in Sikkim. There will be a multi-cornered contest for Mizoram's lone seat. In Tripura West, BJP's nominee will contest against the state Congress chief.
