Uttarakhand which recently became the first state to pass the Universal Civil Code is preparing itself to undergo the 18th Lok Sabha polls in coming months. The state situated between the Himalayas has traditionally seen battle between BJP and Congress in the past Lok Sabha polls.

The 17th Lok Sabha polls were breakthrough for BJP as it was able to win all the seats in the state as Congress leaders such as Harish Rawat and others were not able to get seats in this North Indian state. In the assembly polls, BJP had 47 seats to its name out of 70. Congress was able to improve its position after defeat in 2019 Lok Sabha polls with their number of seats standing at 19. BSP and Independent Candidates has 2 each.

Uttarakhand Lok Sabha 2024: Dates and phases


The voting for Lok Sabha polls will be conducted on April 19 in Uttarakhand in a single phase. Meanwhile, across the country voting for the Lok Sabha elections will be held in 7 phases from April 19 to June 1.

Out of 543 seats that are contested in Lok Sabha polls, Uttarakhand only constitutes five seats. Out of the five, one is kept for the Scheduled Caste (SC) candidate.
