Guwahati: Police arrested a BJP leader in Tripura on Monday for allegedly manhandling a presiding officer.

The incident took place during the second phase of polling in Tripura East Lok Sabha seat on April 26.

A police official said that North Tripura district President Kajal Das was arrested by the police after the Assistant Returning Officer of Bagbassa assembly constituency filed an FIR against him. Das was produced in a local court, which granted bail to the BJP leader.


Earlier an inquiry committee was constituted.

North Tripura District Election Officer has served a show cause notice to BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath for misbehaving with a Booth Level Officer in the same Bagbassa assembly constituency during the second phase of polling in Tripura East Lok Sabha seat on April 26.
