Tacit understanding between Congress and AIUDF is a false propaganda: Tarun Gogoi

GUWAHATI: Denying the allegation that there is tacit understanding between the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Congress in fielding Lok Sabha candidates, former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that this is false propaganda for BJP is worried that Congress is going to get more seats in Assam in comparison to 2014 parliamentary polls.

Gogoi alleged that there is bonhomie between BJP and Dhubri MP and chief of AIUD Barduddin Ajmal.

BJP President Amit Shah alleged that there is tacit understanding between Congress and AIUDF. “Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, for poll prospects of his son Gaurav Gogoi, who is contesting from Koliabor, has surrendered before AIUDF.”


AIUDF has sought understanding with Congress. The party has earlier announced that it will field candidates in eight seats however later it just put candidates in three seats.

Ajmal had declared that his decision to restrict to three seats is aimed at stopping BJP from taking the advantage of division of “secular votes.”

Gogoi said, “ BJP is resorting to false propaganda. We are getting more seats than the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls this time. I have told earlier also. So the BJP have resorted to these kinds of propaganda.”

Congress in 2014 won three seats. Gogoi said that congress President Rahul Gandhi had asked him about alliance with the AIUDF. “I told him that I want to field strong candidate against the AIUDF and defeat them. We have put strong candidates in Dhubri and Barpeta.”

Gogoi added, “ My son Gaurav won 90,000 votes last time and I do not need to do all these to secure seat for him.”

Gogoi said prior to 2014 lok Sabha polls, Prime minister Narendra Modi promised to implement the minimum wage of Rs. 350 to the tea garden workers in Assam. However the promise was never fulfilled.
