NEW DELHI: The SC on Tuesday refused to entertain yet another PIL seeking 100% VVPAT verification during the counting scheduled for May 23, dismissing it as a “nuisance” it cannot keep entertaining.

A three-judge bench led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi had earlier at the instance of at least over 20 opposition parties, including Congress, directed EC to do an EVM-VVPAT tally of at least five polling stations randomly picked from every assembly segment instead of the earlier one.

The opposition parties had again moved the court seeking VVPAT verification in 25% or 33% polling stations in every assembly segment of a Lok Sabha constituency, if not 50% or 100%. That was also rejected. Since then there has been a flood of such PILs in the court, with the court turning away two or three such PILs a day.

On Tuesday, a vacation bench, comprising Justices Arun Mishra and MR Shah, rejected another such PIL filed by a Chennai-based organisation seeking 100% VVPAT verification .
