Lok Sabha Election 2024: Robert Vadra eyes Amethi seat as Congress candidate
Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, has shown interest in contesting the forthcoming polls from Amethi, the former bastion of the Gandhi family.

"If I would contest, I would prefer Amethi. My first step in politics should be Amethi," Vadra said on Thursday.

"Amethi wants a Gandhi family member," he added.

Meanwhile, Smriti Irani has been announced by the BJP as the party's nominee for the seat in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024. Irani pulled off a stunning upset in 2019 when she defeated Rahul Gandhi, the former president of the Congress, by a margin of roughly 55,000 votes.

Robert Vadra also took a dig at Irani and said that the people think they have made a mistake by electing her.

"The people of Amethi expect me to represent their constituency if I decide to become a member of Parliament. For years, the Gandhi family worked hard in Rae Bareli, Amethi and Sultanpur...The people of Amethi are really troubled by the current Member of Parliament, they think they have made a mistake by electing her," Vadra said.

The Congress has not yet announced who will challenge the Union Minister from Amethi. It is still hazy if Rahul Gandhi's will contest from here in the elections, while he has filed his nomination from Wayanad already.

In another media interview, the entrepreneur also said that it is the people who want him to step in to politics.

"People want me to step into politics. Whether it's the state elections or the central elections, they feel I need to enter politics. Being a member of the Gandhi family, it's very difficult to stay away from politics. There are demands coming from many places," Vadra said.

He further said, "People have seen my hard work, so wherever I go, people want me to represent them. My posters start appearing everywhere. Whenever I attend any political event, people from various parties say that I am delaying my entry into politics. They say that I should enter politics. They even say that if not from Congress, then join our party."
