NEW DELHI: Facebook is removing about “one million accounts a day” to ensure “the elections are fair and free from interference, both foreign and domestic”, the social media giant has announced.

Its India managing director & vice president Ajit Mohan wrote in a blog post that “Facebook is blocking and removing fake accounts, fighting misinformation and blocking and removing fake accounts, fighting misinformation spotting attempts at foreign meddling and taking action against inauthentic coordinated campaigns, by using artificial intelligence and machine learning” tools.

The social media giant also announced it will “activate” two new operations centres in Singapore and Dublin to “work closely with staff in our Menlo Park, CA headquarters, as well as with local experts in Delhi. “This is to add “another layer of defense against false news, misinformation, hate speech and voter suppression”.


Facebook also stated that it has “expanded” its partnerships with third-party fact-checkers.
